Year 11 can be a busy time as you try decide what to do next, apply for courses or training, begin to revise for your exams revision and cope with your social life.
You’re not on your own though, there’s plenty of help out there. So whether you’re one of those people who just sails through life or someone who needs a little help and advice along the way, don’t let things get you down, ask for help!

We work closely with your school and local employers to arrange events like talks on topics linked to careers, enterprise days, mentoring and mock interviews. We could also help with finding work experience placements.

Staying in education and want some advice about money?

Students aged 16 and 17 in full time education at school or college and living in a household where income is less than £30,000, can apply for a means tested Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) of between £10 and £30 per week. The scheme will be extended to 18 year olds in 2006/7.

Starting work-based training and want some advice about money?

If you are on a Foundation or Modern Apprenticeship you will recieve a training allowance or wage of at least £50 per week. For Skill Build the allowance is at least £45 per week.
From October 2004 if you are 16 or 17 years old and in work/are employed (not training) you will be entitled to a minimum wage of £3.00 per hour.
It’s good to know that you may be able to get help with transport costs for some work-based training. Ask your Careers Adviser before putting your hand in your pocket – one simple question might end up helping you to save money. |
